Fantastic analysis, and thanks for the background story on how Isaac’s version came about. What an absolute journey this album is, especially this song. There’s very little to comment on that you haven’t so astutely mentioned, but what I find particularly interesting is how Isaac goes from this very intimate “I’m going to tell you a story” atmosphere to that splendid, cinematographic finale, horns and all. Masterful. He makes it look easy. Genius timing. This build up, and the journey he takes us on, has always fascinated me the most about this version. It really does bring home this notion of movement and travelling that the protagonist in the song is talking about.
