What an album! I much prefer the first three albums to the rest of their repetoire.

And the mention of a CD walkman brings back some memories from those pre-iPod/streaming days

Never heard a note or knew what they looked like! One day, two Christmases ago, I ran into a random guy at a local (Austin, TX) Panera Bread at their bank of coffee urns. Nice-looking chap, short-ish dark hair, I just blurted out (never averse to "selling" my Substack), "What kind of music do you listen to?" I forget what he answered, but we chatted for about 5 minutes.

At one point, I asked him what he did, and he said he's in band. "Oh, OK, do you play on 6th St.?" I assumed he was in a local band playing covers on our downtown street known for its live music clubs. As soon as he said, "No," I knew they A) played originals and thus B) had a contract. "So, what's your band's name?" "Kings of Leon"!

I wasn't about to tell him I've never heard a note, but I knew enough that they were huge and Grammy-winning a dozen years ago. "Oh, you have a couple of brothers, Followill, right?" That's a hard name to forget, but he corrected me and said, "Three brothers." Jared was in town visiting relatives for the holidays, and we exchanged e-mails, in my hopes we could do an interview. I wrote and asked, but he never responded. But, he was terribly nice and congenial and fun to chat with!

Thanks, Mitchell! I went down a Kings bunny hole right after meeting him, and reckon I'll do it again, now!👍

Absolutely loved this debut. The soundtrack of my late teens. An album about sex, drugs and rock and roll delivered with speed, sexy riffs and wicked vocals. Loved. It. Love kingfishers too!
