Hi, We separate the art and the artist as much as possible while writing these entries. I don't think that should be done everywhere and by everyone, but I believe it is the right thing to do when we focus on an album closer. There are plenty of entries already from artists who've said or done something I approve or disapprove of and haven't mentioned in the entry as it wasn't irrelevant.
'Run For You Life' is different; it is the song's subject and is fair game for social commentary. I reject that it is merely political correctness to the point that song is a warning to a woman that she better be faithful or her partner will murder her, quite possibly by sneaking up on her. This isn't shrouded in metaphor; Lennon straight up sings about her being dead - even if it is pulled from an Elvis Presley song.
We aren't going out on a limb here; Ian McDonald called it out in Revolution In The Head; a Canadian radio station banned the song 30 years ago, which was over the top, to be honest. Lennon practically disowned the song, and many others have called out the tone long before I have.
We can certainly agree that it is not great, and The Beatles have plenty of other closer tracks that are far superior to this.
